Cynthia Erivo Leads Animated Musical Bad Fairies with Songs by Six the Musical Creators
Academy Award nominee and Tony winner Cynthia Erivo is lending her voice to Bad Fairies, a brand-new animated musical film set for release on 21 May 2027.
Directed by Megan Nicole Dong (Centaurworld) and co-directed by Olivier Staphylas (Puss in Boots), the film features original songs by Toby Marlow and Lucy Moss, the award-winning creators of Six The Musical.
The story follows a rebellious fairy, Jayne Staplegun (voiced by Erivo), who sparks chaos in her magical world. The film blends sharp humour, fantasy, and contemporary pop-inspired music.
The creative team includes Isabella “Machine” Summers of Florence + The Machine (score), Deborah Frances-White (screenplay), and producers Carolyn Soper and DNEG Animation.
Erivo, who stars as Elphaba in Wicked: For Good later this year and the upcoming 2026 production of Dracula, continues her rise as one of today’s most dynamic performers.

Macbeth-Inspired Pop Musical Weird Unveils Creative Team Ahead of 2026 Premiere
A bold new British musical is on its way. Weird, a contemporary, pop-driven reimagining of Shakespeare’s Macbeth, will premiere at the Newcastle Theatre Royal from 28–31 January 2026.
Created by Nick Butcher, Kerri Watt, and Fraser Watt, Weird retells the classic tragedy through the eyes of the three witches, blending Shakespeare’s dark magic with a modern pop soundtrack.
Directed by Tim Jackson (Two Strangers Carry a Cake Across New York) and choreographed by Alexzandra Sarmiento (42 Balloons), the production boasts a powerhouse creative team including Andrew Exeter (set design), Gabriella Slade (Starlight Express, costume design), Howard Hudson (Great Comet of 1812, lighting), Paul Gatehouse (Mary Poppins, sound), and Joe Beighton (Six the Musical, orchestrations).
Tickets for Weird sold out months in advance, but due to overwhelming demand, a limited number of additional seats for the Friday 30 January matinee will be released today.
In an inspiring educational partnership, over 5,000 schoolchildren from across the North East will attend free weekday performances, thanks to producer Michael Harrison and Newcastle Theatre Royal.

Cast Announced for Stiles + Drewe’s Best New Song Prize Concert 2024: A Star-Studded Celebration of New Musical Theatre Talent
Prepare for an unforgettable night of new musical theatre as Mercury Musical Developments and Stiles + Drewe, in partnership with Broadway Licensing Global, present the 2024 Best New Song Prize Concert. Hosted by Olivier Award-winning actor Jenna Russell, this one-night-only gala will take place at The Other Palace on Monday, December 2 at 7:30 pm, showcasing the incredible talent of both emerging and established musical theatre creators.
This unique concert features a glittering cast, including stage icons like Charlie McCullagh (42 Balloons, Jesus Christ Superstar), Desmonda Cathabel (Aladdin, Miss Saigon), Lauryn Redding (Standing at the Sky’s Edge), Natalie Paris (Pretty Woman, SIX), Obioma Ugoala (Frozen, Hamilton), Samuel Barnett (Rock Follies), and Tim Howar (Rock of Ages, The Phantom of the Opera). Lauren Ward and Josie Benson to Lead Cast in World Premiere of Stalled at King’s Head Theatre
West End and Broadway star Lauren Ward (Stranger Things: The First Shadow, Dear Evan Hansen) and Josie Benson (Kiss Me Kate, Mamma Mia!) are set to headline the cast of Stalled, a new musical premiering at the King’s Head Theatre. This heartwarming and thought-provoking production centres around a group of characters whose lives intersect in a posh Seattle ladies' room. From Maggie, a woman in search of herself, to a frazzled mother, a neurodivergent daughter, a non-binary poet, and a queer computer scientist, Stalled tells their stories with soul-stirring melodies and rare authenticity. The musical promises an uplifting and emotional celebration of diverse voices, all navigating the complexities of modern life.
With a book and lyrics by Liesl Wilke and music by Andy Marsh, with additional music by Kyle Puccia, Stalled will run for six weeks, from Thursday, February 13th, to Sunday, March 23rd, 2025, under the direction of Vikki Stone. Two press performances are scheduled for Sunday, February 16, at 2pm and 5pm.
Producer Thomas Hopkins expressed his excitement about bringing this vibrant, poignant musical to the King’s Head Theatre, working alongside co-producer Liesl Wilke. He emphasised the importance of giving a platform to underrepresented voices, adding that the production aims to foster inclusivity through a "Pay What You Can Tuesdays" initiative, allowing audience members of all financial backgrounds to experience the show. Bradley Riches, Amber Davies, and Claudia Kariuki Join Scott Alan in Concert at Cadogan Hall
Fourth Wall Live has announced a stellar cast of guest vocalists set to perform with internationally acclaimed songwriter Scott Alan at his upcoming concert at Cadogan Hall on November 10, 2024. TINA- The Tina Turner Musical launches costume exhibition in Covent Garden
To honour the life and legacy of Tina Turner, TINA – The Tina Turner Musical has launched a stunning pop-up costume exhibition in Covent Garden. This free-to-attend display showcases six iconic costumes from the hit West End production, set against the backdrop of the legendary artist's most memorable moments and songs. Visitors can see these outfits up close and explore the visual legacy of the Queen of Rock ‘n’ Roll in the heart of one of London's most vibrant cultural districts.
The exhibition features six costumes, each tied to pivotal moments in Tina Turner’s career, from the golden fringe dress she wore during “Proud Mary” to the famous red dress from “The Best (Simply).” Displayed along Central Avenue in Covent Garden’s historic Market Building, the costumes are accompanied by photographs that compare their use in the musical to how Tina herself wore these iconic looks. Fans can immerse themselves in the story of Tina’s musical journey, which continues to electrify audiences in London’s West End after six record-breaking years at the Aldwych Theatre.
TINA – The Tina Turner Musical premiered in 2018, created in collaboration with Tina herself, and has since become a global sensation, with productions on Broadway and across Europe, Australia, and North America. The London show features Karis Anderson and Zoe Birkett sharing the role of Tina, with Rolan Bell as Ike Turner. The exhibition will include information about the charity’s mission and the impact of domestic violence on survivors, alongside opportunities to donate and support their cause.
The TINA – The Tina Turner Musical Costume Exhibition runs from 15th October to 10th November 2024 at Covent Garden’s Central Avenue, Market Building. The auction aims to raise funds to support the charity’s mission of making theatre accessible to young people and their families, especially those facing financial, social, or physical barriers.
Bidders can expect exclusive items from some of the West End's biggest productions, including signed posters and programmes from Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, Hadestown, SIX, Les Mis̩rables, Frozen, Back To The Future, Tina РThe Tina Turner Musical, and Wicked. There are also signed t-shirts and hoodies from theatre stars like Michael Ball, Sheridan Smith, Derek Jacobi, Bonnie Langford, and Arlene Phillips. Sinitta to join Chicago as Mama Morton in Bradford and Stoke
David Ian for Crossroads Live, in association with Barry and Fran Weissler, is thrilled to announce that international pop star Sinitta will join the UK and Ireland tour of Chicago as Mama Morton for a strictly limited run. Sinitta will perform at Bradford’s Alhambra Theatre (21–26 October 2024) and Stoke’s Regent Theatre (25–30 November 2024).
Sinitta expressed her excitement, saying: I’m so excited to be returning to Chicago. I jumped at the chance to step back into Mama Morton’s shoes for two weeks on the upcoming UK and Ireland tour. Sinitta reprises her role as Mama Morton, joining a stellar cast that includes stage and soap star Faye Brookes as Roxie Hart, Strictly Come Dancing favourite Kevin Clifton as Billy Flynn, leading West End talent Djalenga Scott as Velma Kelly, alongside Joshua Lloyd as Amos Hart and Jordan Lee Davies as Mary Sunshine.

Next to Normal at Wyndham's Theatre: A Resonant Masterpiece 15 Years in the Making | REVIEW

London’s theatre scene is abuzz at the moment, with fan favourites returning, completely new works opening, and highly anticipated Broadway transfers finally making their way over. In Next to Normal’s case, "finally" is the operative word as it’s taken 15 years. Since debuting on Broadway in 2009 to critical and audience acclaim, fans have been eagerly awaiting its opening across the pond. After a brief stint at the Donmar Warehouse, it’s now officially open at the Wyndham’s Theatre in the heart of London’s West End. But was it worth the wait?
To put you out of your misery quickly, the answer is a resounding yes. This musical, which tells the story of a struggling family, is a poignant and punchy exploration of grief, drug therapies, and heartbreak. It doesn’t sound uplifting and for the most part, it isn’t, but it’s the trauma and intense emotions that make it such a special piece of theatre. The musical faces harsh realities with unflinching honesty that makes it genuinely affecting and truthful. Alongside this, there are moments of genuine humour, and like real life, there are highs and lows, mixed with dark humour to compensate for grief.
If you’re looking for the healthiest belting in the West End, you’ll find it with every member of the stellar five-person cast of Next to Normal. There’s not a note that doesn’t ring with clarity, support, and power. There are so many standout vocal moments that it’s impossible to pick favourites, and what’s brilliant is that not all of them are the big, loud, dramatic moments. Instead, the musical often thrives in its quieter moments. The belting is highly impressive and impactful, but frequently the smaller, supported moments are the most moving.
To put it lightly, Caissie Levy is a marvel. Her portrayal of Diana, the troubled mother at the centre of the story, is both heart-wrenching and electrifying. Levy’s vocal prowess is matched by her deep emotional delivery, making her performance one of the most memorable in recent West End history. Jamie Parker as Dan brings a grounded, heartfelt presence to the role of Diana’s supportive yet struggling husband. His performance is both tender and raw, capturing the complexities of a man trying to hold his family together.
Eleanor Worthington-Cox shines as Natalie, their overachieving yet deeply affected daughter. Her portrayal is layered and nuanced, capturing the teenage angst and longing for normalcy amidst chaos. Jack Wolfe as Gabe delivers a haunting performance with vocals that soar effortlessly, adding an ethereal quality to his character. Trevor Dion Nicholas as Dr. Madden/Dr. Fine brings a mix of authority and empathy to his roles as Diana’s doctors, his voice resonating powerfully through the theatre. Jack Ofrecio as Henry, Natalie's boyfriend, adds a touch of sweetness and earnestness, providing a much-needed sense of hope and grounding amidst the turmoil.
Thanks to the direction by Michael Longhurst, the cast is able to carry huge emotions throughout scenes, even when they're not at the forefront. The character work is clear, and you could watch this show ten times and notice a different intention or a new heartbreaking expression from any of the cast. Longhurst’s direction allows each actor to shine in their own right while maintaining a cohesive and emotionally charged ensemble performance.
The staging is both intimate and dynamic, perfectly capturing the fluctuating emotions of the characters. The set design by Chloe Lamford, lighting design by Lee Curran and video design by Tal Rosner create a visually stunning backdrop that enhances the storytelling without overwhelming it.
I don’t think this is a show for everyone. Aside from any triggers throughout, it’s a tough show to watch. In many ways, it feels more like a play with music because of the intensity and that’s personally why I enjoyed it so much. However, I can certainly see that it may not be quite as well-received by those who like more positive, “classically musical” musicals. Comparatively, it’s more on the wavelength of the Bridge Theatre revival of Oklahoma, rather than say, Six. Of course, that’s somewhat like comparing oranges and brussels sprouts; they are inherently different, but in a world where theatre is an expensive, occasional treat for many people, I think it’s important to know whether a show will be your vibe or not. And of course, all art is subjective so even if you’re hesitant, you may still love it.
All in all, just to say, Next to Normal isn’t like other shows in the West End. But it is a painful, beautiful, and impeccably performed show which many will love. So, if you’re ready for an emotional rollercoaster with stellar performances and thought-provoking themes, don’t miss Next to Normal at Wyndham’s Theatre. It’s a theatrical experience worth every moment of the 15-year wait.

Rehab the Musical at Neon 194 Review: Struggles to Find Its Narrative Harmony

Written by Elliot Davis with music and lyrics from Grant Black and Murray Lachlan Young, Rehab the Musical follows 26-year-old pop star, Kid Pop (Christian Maynard), who finds himself in court, after being caught red handed in a drug fuelled tabloid sting. A judge gives Kid the choice between jail time or a rehabilitation centre for six weeks. Kid chooses to go the Glade rehab centre where he meets a host of characters and has to face some harsh realities about himself.
The musical tries to seamlessly weave together an array of elements that, unfortunately, leave the overall production feeling a bit scattered. The emotional journey is a rollercoaster, evoking heartfelt moments that pull at the audience's heartstrings, only to be swiftly followed by chaotic, feverish musical interludes that seem to materialise out of thin air. This tonal inconsistency gives rise to an emotional whiplash, making it a bit challenging for the audience to fully immerse themselves in the unfolding narrative.
Amidst the theatrical mosaic are intriguing plot line crumbs, teeming with the potential for impactful developments. Regrettably, these narrative threads are left hanging, never fully explored or developed. The overarching structure of the production yearns for a more streamlined approach, as the multitude of introduced ideas creates an unfocused and somewhat in-cohesive storyline. The musical teeters between being sincere and heartfelt, whilst also really leaning in to over the top humour, a balance which in this instance doesn't quite work.
However, within the ebb and flow of its narrative, Rehab the Musical has some luminous moments. The production sparkles with genuinely hysterical instances and unforgettable one-liners, thanks to the standout comedic performances by Keith Allen (Malcolm Stone) and Jodie Steele (Beth Boscombe). Steele's solo number is particularly striking, a testament to her vocal prowess, even though the character she portrays lacks the nuanced depth required for a fully rounded portrayal.
The undeniable chemistry between Maiya Quansah-Breed (Lucy Blake) and Christian Maynard (Kid Pop) adds a dreamy allure to the stage. Both actors deliver performances that resonate, yet the dialogue between their characters falls short of allowing for a fully realised emotional connection. That being said, their duets and solos are truly some of the high points of the show, with vocals that float and soar around the venue.
Commendation is due to the set design (Simon Kenny), which functions seamlessly in the round. Stairs metamorphose into drawers, and a minimalist aesthetic facilitates smooth scene transitions, preventing the physical aspects of the production from feeling cumbersome. It's not particularly inventive or exciting but really works in the confines of the space. On the flip side, while the choreography (Gary Lloyd) offers visual interest from every angle, it fails to weave itself significantly into the overarching action or storyline, missing an opportunity to enhance the narrative through movement.
Mica Paris, once again, graces the stage with a stellar vocal performance but finds herself in a role that echoes with underdevelopment. Her undeniable talent radiates- especially in her duet with Maiya, Museum of Loss which is a true theatrical treat- but again, the character lacks the narrative depth necessary to fully showcase Paris's abilities.
A standout moment in the production is the glorious gospel song that concludes the first act Letters Goodbye/Don't Eat Your Feelings, etching itself into the collective memory of the audience. It underscores the musical's potential for powerful and emotionally resonant moments.
While Rehab the Musical boasts strengths, including comedic brilliance, dreamy performances, and impressive set design, it falls short of deciding what sort of show it wants to be and fails to achieve a cohesive narrative.

Cast Announced for Pretty Woman the UK & Ireland Tour
The popular West End production, Pretty Woman: The Musical, is going on a UK and Ireland tour! The tour will kick off at the Birmingham Alexandra Theatre on October 17, 2023.
The cast includes: Amber Davies as Vivian Ward, Ore Oduba as Happy Man/Mr. Thompson, Oliver Savile as Edward Lewis, and Natalie Paris as Kit De Luca. Amber Davies, currently seen as Lorraine Baines in Back to the Future: The Musical, has also performed in 9 to 5 the Musical and Bring It On. Ore Oduba, known for his role as Brad Majors in The Rocky Horror Show, has also appeared in Curtains and Grease. Oliver Savile's credits include Fiyero in Wicked, Whizzer in Falsettos, and performances in The Phantom of the Opera, Les Misérables, Cats, and Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat. Natalie Paris, nominated for an Olivier Award for her role in SIX, has also been part of Sunday in the Park with George, Billy Elliot, and Les Misérables.
Pretty Woman: The Musical is a spectacular romantic comedy set in Hollywood in the late '80s. The story follows Vivian and Edward's unforgettable love story, brought to life on stage in a dazzling and theatrical way. The musical features original music and lyrics by Bryan Adams and Jim Vallance, a book by Garry Marshall and J.F. Lawton, and is directed and choreographed by Jerry Mitchell, a two-time Tony Award winner.
The production includes the iconic song "Oh, Pretty Woman" by Roy Orbison and Bill Dee, which served as inspiration for the beloved romantic comedy film of the same name released in 1990.

Cast for Cake- The Marie Antoinette Playlist Announced

The brand-new musical, come gig, come ballet is from some of the most exciting figures in modern British Theatre, with an Olivier Award winning creative team including Olivier Winner’s Drew McOnie(In the Heights; Jesus Chris Superstar) and Morgan Lloyd Malcolm (Emilia - The Globe)
Cake will be venturing on a UK tour from 18 March 2023, starting at the MAST Mayflower Studios, Southampton.
Casting will include, fresh from her magical run as Mary Poppins on the West End, Zizi Strallen (she/her) stars as Marie Antoinette, with Renée Lamb (she/her), Catherine of Aragon from the original cast of SIX, starring as Jeanne.
The cast is completed by B Terry (they/them) as Nicole, Travis Ross (he/him) as Cardinal with Ope Sowande (he/him) and Megan Bryony Gibbs (she/her) as the ensemble and Lukas Hunt (he/him) and Amie Hibbert (she/her) as swings.
Cake combines music with 18th century France to retell a story that sparked a revolution. When Marie Antoinette married King Louis, her reputation was already tarnished by gossip. But when she is implicated in a crime to defraud the crown jewellers of a diamond necklace, it is not just her reputation at stake, but the monarchy and France itself.
Originally commissioned by Paul Taylor-Mills (Heathers & In the Heights), Cake promises to re-define our expectations of what a musical can be.
Paul has said, “We are delighted to be partnering with 5 of the leading regional theatres to present a development production of this brilliant new show. I first commissioned this at The Other Palace five years ago and am delighted to be working with some of the best theatre makers in Drew McOnie, Morgan Lloyd Malcolm, Tasha Taylor Johnson and Jack McManus. The show started life at our first MTFestUK and it’s great to see it come to production.”
Cake is written by Morgan Lloyd Malcom directed and choreographed by Drew McOnie with songs by Tasha Taylor Johnson and Jack McManus, casting by Will Burton CDG and based on an idea byPaul Taylor-Mills.

Entering the Vaudeville theatre last night there was a bustling energy, not just because everyone was excited to see Six but because the cast of the highly addictive tv show, the Traitors were in the audience. Murmurs of “traitor” and “faithful” filled the air and the buzz was certainly something, who knew we’d all be so starstruck!? However, once the curtain was drawn it was all eyes on the Queens and a glorious 75 minutes followed.
Going into a new year it’s great to see that Six the Musical is as vibrant and wonderful as ever. The current queens of the castle do an outstanding job of keeping the energy of the show fresh and truly engaging so that both first time audiences audiences and longtime Six fans can feel like they’re experiencing something special.
The cast, made up of Rhianne-Louise McCaulsky, Baylie Carson, Claudia Kariuki, Dionne Ward-Anderson, Koko Basigara and Roxanne Couch are a complete group of powerhouses who give stellar solo performances as well as backing up and complementing each other brilliantly. The camaraderie on stage is clear to see and really adds to the overall message of empowerment and support which is at the heart of the show. Special mention must go to Baylie Carson who is an absolute dream to watch as they bring something completely fresh and charming to the role of Anne Boleyn; I cannot wait to see all their future theatrical endeavours (Fangirls UK please!)
Having been playing at the Vaudeville theatre since 2021 the show feels completely settled and has perfectly upgraded from its first long term home, the Arts, to now filling the space on the Strand. The bigger space allows more to witness to wonder of the musical but the clever, cosy set design means none of the intimacy is lost. Emma Bailey's design is the ideal backdrop for this concert style musical. The simplistic framework really allows the performances to shine but there are also some really clever elements such as the throne which rises up grandly. Paired with Tim Deiling's lighting, you really do get the fully visceral concert experience.
A Tudor tale like no other Toby Marlow and Lucy Moss' show continues to get better and better and there's no end in sight for its reign of brilliance. Six the Musical will have you bowing down to the queens and then on your feet to dance along with them- go see this show.
