A Note on the Novel Series vs the Musical/Film
The full, original Wicked novel series by Gregory Maguire (The Wicked Years) includes Wicked, Son of a Witch, A Lion Among Men, Out of Oz. The series differs significantly from the stage musical and film versions. They are darker, more adult-oriented and explore politics, identity and morality more deeply. If you’re choosing a book for younger fans (for Christmas or otherwise), it’s worth checking content first to ensure it suits their age and reading level.
