Studio Ghibli’s enchanting stage adaptation My Neighbour Totoro will continue to captivate audiences in London as it extends its West End run until 30 August 2026. Produced by the Royal Shakespeare Company in collaboration with Nippon TV and Improbable, the multi-award-winning show continues its reign as one of the most magical experiences in musical theatre.

Adapted by Tom Morton-Smith and directed by Phelim McDermott, My Neighbour Totoro first premiered at the Barbican in 2022, where it broke box office records and won six Olivier Awards, including Best Entertainment or Comedy Play. With dazzling puppetry by Basil Twist, music by the legendary Joe Hisaishi, and a world-class creative team, the production remains a must-see for both long-time Ghibli fans and newcomers to London theatre.

The story follows sisters Satsuki and Mei as they move to the countryside while their mother recovers in hospital. There, they encounter Totoro a gentle forest spirit who introduces them to a magical world filled with wonder and friendship. The production beautifully captures the innocence and imagination of childhood through extraordinary stagecraft and live orchestration.

Daniel Evans and Tamara Harvey, RSC Co-Artistic Directors said:
“My Neighbour Totoro is a story of kindness, courage and the power of the imagination... Watching the joy on people’s faces when they meet Catbus, Chu, Sho and of course Totoro, is a delight to behold, and we can’t wait to welcome more people to the show at the Gillian Lynne Theatre."
To celebrate the extension, the show has also announced special “Acorn Performances,” offering affordable tickets from £15. This initiative ensures more families and theatre lovers can experience the magic of Totoro up close.

With its breathtaking design, stunning puppetry, and unforgettable score, My Neighbour Totoro continues to set the standard for theatrical innovation in the West End. Whether you’re a lifelong fan or a first-time visitor, this is a London theatre experience not to be missed.
