Pentatonix Track By Track Review

Wednesday, 21 October 2015

Its my birthday today! Wooo! So I got an early birthday present last week from Pentatonix: their new original album.... okay, so it wasn't technically a birthday present for me but it felt like my birthday when I got the notification that my preorder was available for download!

I have been waiting for this album for what seems like forever and I was not let down at all! In case you don't know, Pentatonix are an a capella group who have been making YouTube videos ever since they won The Sing-Off; they have amassed a huge following online and are becoming more and more popular everyday. This album is just the beginning of their world domination!

So I wanted to review the album but I feared that if I just review it I will turn into a babbling mess so instead I'm doing a track-by-track review (which will still be babbly, but hopefully less so!):

Na Na Na: This is the perfect opening song. Its so catchy with an old-school vibe, pumped me up for the rest of the album, Mitch's vocals are so perfect and it will just have you dancing around your room.

Can't Sleep Love: I've been jamming to this chilled out, vibey track since it was released as a single. Its such a feel-good song, with retro vibes that have you bopping your head and it just makes me so happy.

Sing: This is another super such high energy song, its got an amazing video featuring some fans and famous faces. I can just tell this is gonna be my new shower song, it makes me wanna sing it at the top of my lungs and sing! This is one of the songs on the album that really makes the most of each member, with Kevin's rapping being a highlight!

Misbehavin': I love, love, love, this one. Avi's parts just slays and I can just imagine it being in a 90's film, I wanna drive around with the roof down, blasting it!

Ref: This song just goes off! Ref uses really clever puns and whistles to create an insane sound. This is such a clever song and I can picture everyone going off when hearing it in the club.

First Things First: This isn't my favourite song on the album but I still really like it- it's got a really strong beat which immerses you into it and the sass is just off the scale.

Rose Gold: This is the start of the slower songs on the album, it's a really pretty song and I love the lyrics. The chorus is beautiful, I love this as a more chilled out song.

If I Ever Fall In Love: This is a collaboration with Jason Derulo and its another slower song; its not as energetic as the beginning songs but it builds up and by the end its just crazy and Jason kills it. That high note!?!

Cracked: This is one of my absolute favourites on the album. Its so so catchy and upbeat and the chorus just goes off. Its rhythmically and lyrically perfect. Scott's vocals are everything I need- I really don't think he's human!

Water: Finally we get some Kirstie! Woooo! This so is absolutely adorable, I love that it brings a ballad to the album and Kirstie's soulful voice suits it and sounds so incredible.

Take Me Home: This one gives me 'Run To You' vibes and is a stunning ballad. Scott's vocals again are fantastic and the sweet harmonies are chilling.

New Year's Day: I think catchy is the word which sums up this album and this song definitely is catchy! Its such a motivational song and its crazy how the harmonies actually have a New Year's Eve vibe. Its such a radio worthy song - I can't wait to blast it around the festive period (along with 'That's Christmas To Me'!)

Light In The Hallway: Now this is officially the 'Run To You' of the album. Avi's vocals are hauntingly beautiful, it reminds me of a lullaby that a parent would sing to a child. I can imagine the when this is in the concert, it's gonna be a 'Standing By' moment all over again!

Where Are U Now: This is a fantastic cover. I really liked the song when I'd heard the original so I was super excited that PTX did a cover of it. Mitch's vocals are incredible- I'm sorry Biebs but he beats you! The beat is fab in this song and again it has a fab video.

Cheerleader: This song just makes me wanna party. Its so catchy and I can't help but dance around my room whenever I hear it!

Lean On: I've loved this song for a while but it was getting a bit overplayed so I was worried I wouldn't love the Pentatonix version but I didn't need to worry because they have completely reimagined it and its just a great song to have in your ears.

Can't Sleep Love (feat. Tink): I love Tink's part thats added in here, I thought I'd wanna skip this seeing as its already been on the album but like every other song Pentatonix touch, it ends up being repeated a bajillion times!

This is definitely a 5 star album... if you want some really catchy songs with beautiful harmonies and just overall amazingness- buy this album now!!!
