A West End Favourite Returns to Celebrate 20 Years
The beloved and outrageously funny musical Avenue Q is heading back to London’s West End for a strictly limited 20th anniversary season at the Shaftesbury Theatre. Running from 20 March to 29 August 2026, this revival promises to reintroduce the three-time Tony Award-winning and Olivier-nominated hit to a whole new generation of theatre fans.
Produced by Kevin McCollum and Jamie Wilson Productions, the show brings back the original Broadway puppets designed by Rick Lyon, along with director Jason Moore and orchestrations by Stephen Oremus. Set designer Anna Louizos and choreographer Ebony Molina join the creative team, ensuring this milestone production feels both nostalgic and fresh for modern audiences.
Director Jason Moore said:
“It’s a rare and wonderful gift to revisit a musical you helped create 20 years ago and bring it into this modern decade with tweaks and surprises that make the original show glisten with even more relevance and humour. We are so excited to head back to the Avenue once again—this time, adding an audience that was too young for some of these puppets and their particular brand of humour!”
A Modern Classic with Heart and Hilarity
Producers Kevin McCollum and Jamie Wilson added:
“We’re beyond excited to bring Avenue Q back to the West End to celebrate its 20th anniversary... Two decades later, its message feels more relevant than ever.”
Packed with cheeky humour and heart, Avenue Q follows Princeton, a recent college graduate searching for his purpose in a run-down New York neighbourhood filled with eccentric characters. Together, they tackle real-world challenges like work, relationships, and paying the bills – all told through hilarious songs and irreverent puppetry.
Since its West End debut in 2006, Avenue Q has delighted audiences at the Noël Coward Theatre, Gielgud Theatre, and Wyndham’s Theatre, closing in 2010 before returning for a special concert at the Sondheim Theatre in 2024.
With its infectious score by Robert Lopez and Jeff Marx and book by Jeff Whitty, this anniversary production celebrates two decades of laughter, friendship, and finding your place in the world.
