The Bridge Theatre has announced a major theatrical event for summer 2026- Chris Pine will make his London stage debut starring in Simon Stone’s new adaptation of Ivanov, based on Anton Chekhov’s classic.
The production begins previews on 4 July 2026, opens officially on 14 July, and runs for 11 weeks until 19 September. Written and directed by Simon Stone, in collaboration with Wouter van Ransbeek, this fresh interpretation marks Stone’s highly anticipated return to the Bridge following his acclaimed production of
The Lady from the Sea starring Alicia Vikander and Andrew Lincoln.
Pine, known worldwide for Star Trek, Wonder Woman, and Hell or High Water, will play the complex antihero Nikolai Ivanov, a man unraveling under the weight of personal failure and emotional disillusionment. For Pine, it’s a return to his theatrical roots after more than a decade away from the stage.
“I’m thrilled to be back in the theatre, especially in London... Simon’s vision for Ivanov is bold, modern and full of heart... I can’t wait to bring it to life.”
Stone describes Chekhov’s work as “a dance between tragedy and comedy, philosophy and irony, an ode to imperfection.” He calls Pine “a uniquely sensitive and intelligent actor” whose range makes him perfect for the role.
The creative team reunites many of Stone’s long-time collaborators, including designer Lizzie Clachan, costume designer Mel Page, and composer Stefan Gregory.
Produced by the London Theatre Company, Ivanov will explore love, failure, and self-destruction through a contemporary lens, continuing the Bridge’s commitment to bold, reimagined classics for London theatre audiences.
Tickets go on general sale 24 October 2025 at bridgetheatre.co.uk.
